Looted money to be recovered: minister

ISLAMABAD Federal Minister for Housing and Works, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat said on Wednesday that he would recover the looted national money from the corrupt serving and former government officials on the pattern he had successfully done in the case of rental power plants (RPPs). The minister, while talking The Nation here, said that necessary changes have been made in the ministries to resolve the issues by following the zero tolerance policy on corruption. Few black sheep found involved in the massive irregularities have been removed from their offices and further investigations are underway. There is yet a lot to be done in terms of reforms. I will scale down the level of corruption at least, if I couldnt remove it completely he maintained. To a question, he said that 650 kanals of land have been encroached by the land mafia in Karachi and he is determined to get it vacated from the illegal occupants. He also said that he is having comprehensive plans to develop societies for rest of 16,000 plots. Earlier, Faisal participated in the National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works, which met here to discuss heavy agenda with the abolition of discretionary quotas in housing schemes bill 2011 on top of the list. Zahid Hamid MNA had moved the bill from the PML-N. Faisal clarified that the bill had become anfractuous because there was no discretionary quota available in any housing scheme under the ministry. The minister told the committee that the housing quotas had been clearly categorized and no one including Prime Minister and federal minister for housing had the prerogative to allot any plot according to mere discretion. As far as the housing schemes in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) are concerned, they do not come under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Housing & Works, the minister told the committee. During the proceedings of the committee meeting, the Federal Minister apprised the members about the facts regarding Barakoh land scam. He also showed some documentary proofs including receipts collected from the Patwaris of that area.The Federal Minister shared with the committee details about his personal visits of the Barakoh subject land few days ago in order to have a first hand knowledge of all the relevant aspects. In reply to question of Khalida Mansoor, the Federal Minister said that he has changed three Estate Officers within a span of only two months so that rules and regulations are followed in letter and spirit. The Minster further said that recently Saeed Ramzan had been appointed as Estate Officer who belonged to District Management Group and was an upright person. The committee met under the chairmanship of Pervaiz Khan Advocate. Besides Faisal Saleh Hayat, MNAs Mahmood Hayat Khan, Jamshaid Ahmed Dasti, Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, Khalida Mansoor, Tahira Aurangzeb, Gen. (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Dr. Nelson Azeem, Nosheen Saeed, Dr. Ghulam Haider Samejo, Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan and Sheikh Aftab Ahmad attended the meeting.
