ECP declares E-voting impossible for overseas Pakistanis in general elections

Islamabad: Overseas Pakistanis once again stand deprived of exercising their right to vote as Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared electronic voting impossible in general elections 2018.

A three-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up for hearing the case pertaining to the right of vote to overseas Pakistanis on Thursday.

At the inception of hearing, Faisal Chaudhary lawyer of Imran Khan told the court that the report of security check of electronic vote system has been received but voting is impossible even after our many efforts. A separate voting list of overseas Pakistanis will have to be prepared.

CJP remarked that experiment of E-voting can be carried out in by polls. It is feared that any harm is not caused in general election.

Secretary ECP took the stance in the court that voting by overseas Pakistanis is not possible because more working is needed on the online system.

Upon it, the court adjourned the hearing right after the general elections and said that online voting could be reviewed in by-elections.
