Defence Day observed with zeal

KARACHI- The 47th Defence Day of Pakistan was observed in the metropolis on Thursday with traditional zeal and reverence to pay tributes to the martyrs and ghazis of 1965 war and pledges to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan at all cost.The day-long celebrations commenced with special prayers for integrity and solidarity of the country. The day was dawned with prayers in army units, Naval establishments and Air Force bases in Karachi for the progress and prosperity of the country. Special prayers would be offered for the eternal peace of the shuhada, who laid down their lives in defence of the country.Floral wreaths were laid at Mausoleum of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah on behalf of the three armed forces. The ceremonies of wreath-laying were also held at the graves of the martyrs of armed forces of Pakistan including Air Force martyr Rashid Minhas (Nishan-e-Haider) to pay homage to the country’s brave sons who had demonstrated indomitable courage and valour in the defence of the motherland.A large number of Karachiites and leaders of political and religious parties visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam to offer fateha and also laid the flower wreaths on the grave of Quaid-e-Azam.A guard mounting ceremony took place at the Mazar-e-Quaid in which a smartly turned out contingent of Cadets from PAF Academy Risalpur took over guard duties at the mausoleum of Father of the Nation, to commemorate his visit to the PAF Academy Risalpur 65 years ago. Air Vice Marshal Rashid Kamal inspected the honour guard and laid a floral wreath and offered “fateha” at the Mazar-e-Quaid.  The ceremony was keenly witnessed by common people including a large number of students from various schools and colleges who had gathered at the mazar.3 ALLEGED KILLERS REMANDED: Meanwhile, three suspect killers were remanded in police custody till September 9 by the First Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate West here on Thursday. Accused Altaf alias Disco, Aliullah alias Geer and Muhammad Sadiq were arrested by Saeedabad police station in connection with FIR number 481/12 under Section 302 (premeditated murder), and Section 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code on September 1, 2012 while their accomplices Shan, Ghafar alias Sir and Khiyal were at large.Petitioner Muniza Bibi stated that her son Amjad Ali and their neighbor Tariq Mehmood were killed by the accused and their accomplices.She said on August 18, she heard some noise outside her house. When she went out she saw that victims and accused were quarreling. Then she heard some gunshots and both men were killed. The investigation officer of the case produced the suspects before the court and sought physical remand to conduct further investigation. First Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate West Ashfaq Ahmed Nizamani remanded the accused in police custody till September 9, 2012 and directed the IO to produce them on next date of hearing with remand diaries.
