Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan today said an agreement has been reached between the government and Ulema to get all the madrassas (seminaries) registered. Briefing the media about the decisions made and agreements reached at the government’s meeting with the Ulema today, Nisar said all the Ulema have expressed agreement over stamping out terrorism from the country.
In his remarks, the Interior Minister appreciated the cooperation and role of seminaries and religious scholars in the ongoing War on Terror. The minister said it is his utmost effort, to portray the true image of Islam and Ulema everywhere. He said Islam should not be linked with terrorism.
“The government will also devise a mechanism in connection with the foreign funding of madrassas,” Nisar said, adding that “the Prime Minister will chair the final meeting in connection with matters relating to madrassas soon.”
He said a committee will be constituted to introduce a simple procedure for the registration of madrassas.
“The registration form for madrassas will be prepared with the understanding of all the stakeholders. Consultations in this regard have been held with all the associations of Madressah,” the Interior Minister said.
He said the government will monitor the foreign funding to madrassas in consultation with State Bank and Finance Ministry. The madrassas will be facilitated to open bank accounts so that all the transactions are transparent.
