Iawalpindi-Pakistan Army yesterday carried out different activities in the city in connection with National Defence Day under tight security arrangements.
The authorities displayed army hardware and aeroplanes at Noor Khan Base, Chaklala, and at Qasim Army Aviation Base, Dhamial. A large of families and children visited the places where military hardware was displayed.
The authorities had allowed access to people along with families after compete body search and checking of their national identity cards.
Huge rush was seen at both sites where children took interest in military equipment. The exhibitions remained open from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Meanwhile, police following the orders of Regional Police Officer Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja and City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi remained on high alert in the city, particularly in cantonment areas around the GHQ and the military installations.
Similarly, the armed military personnel started patrolling in sensitive areas on Monday afternoon. The forces remained alert whole night and day. The army personnel were also deployed at busy markets such as Lal Kurti, Dhamial, Adiala Road, Saddar, Chungi No 22, and Tench Bhatta.
The police and army personnel carried out tight checking at all entry and exit points of the city.
The police also carried out search operations in residential areas close to the military installations.
The Rangers and army personnel were also deployed at rooftops of important buildings and at Metro Bus Bridge.
As many as 1,200 police officers and constables were deployed for security purposes on the National Defence Day, informed a police spokesman.
He said the police also carried out special checking at important places.
The security authorities also suspended mobile service in Rawalpindi at about 4:00pm and the service resumed at 11:00 pm. The mobile service also remained suspended on Monday as well.
The Metro Bus Service Authority also suspended the bus service at 5:00pm. The service would be resumed on Wednesday morning.
