GILGIT - The National Bank of Pakistan has installed world’s highest automated teller machine (ATM) at the Pak-China border, Khunjerab Pass.
A senior official of the National Bank Muhamad Akram told The Nation that the inaugural ceremony for ATM was scheduled when Army Chief General Raheel Sharif last visited Gilgit but he cancelled the programme due to his busy schedule. He said that NBP’s Khunjerab ATM had been installed at a height of 16,007 feet above sea level making it world’s highest-altitude ATM anywhere in the world. He added that NBP had dedicated staff to keep the ATM active and functional 24 hours a day and 12 months a year.
The National Bank hopes the ATM will serve the growing needs of tourists visiting Khunjerab Pass, bordering Pakistan and China.
This year record tourists visited Gilgit-Baltistan.
