Federal govt likely to appoint new Punjab CS, IGP today

ISLAMABAD - The federal government is likely to take decision regarding appointment of new Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police in Punjab in federal cabinet meeting today (Tuesday).

The Punjab government has also moved the panels of officers to the federal government in this regard, The Nation has learnt through reliable sources.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar had decided to change Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik and the IG Police Inam Ghani long before the completion of their tenures.

The informed sources told The Nation that the Punjab government has moved a summary of three names including Kamran Afzal, Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera and Ali Raza Bhutta for the position of Chief Secretary of Punjab and similarly forwarded another summary of three officers of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) including Mohsin Hassan Butt, Rao Sardar Ali Khan and Zafar Iqbal for the position of new IGP Punjab. They said that Kamran Afzal and Rao Sardar Ali Khan are the strongest candidates for the positions of Chief Secretary and IGP Punjab respectively. They mentioned that the Prime Minister office did not indicate the Establishment Division for issuing the notifications of new IGP and Chief Secretary Punjab. They said that the PM office is likely to issue directions regarding transfers and postings on top positions in Punjab after getting approval of the names of officers from federal cabinet today (Tuesday).

According to details, presently, Kamran Afzal is serving as Federal Secretary Industries and Rao Sardar Ali Khan is performing as Manging Director Punjab Safe City Authority. Jawad Rafique is the sixth chief secretary to be replaced and Inam Ghani would be the seventh IG police to be changed in the last three years.
