Police reached the spot and sent the body to hospital for postmortem

FAISALABAD - A young man was found hanging from a tree in University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Wednesday.

Police said the university administration found a corpse of 30-year-old man hanging from a tree in UAF ground and informed the area police. The police reached the spot and sent the body to hospital for postmortem.

The man was identified as Azaran son of Maqool Masih. Further investigation was underway to trace his family and residence. Apparently, it was an incident of suicide, police said. Senior clerk arrested on corruption charges Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a senior clerk of Forest department on the charge of taking bribe.

ACE spokesman said that Muhammad Afzal resident of Shahkot filed a complaint, contending that he was compulsory retired from the forest department. He filed an appeal before the Divisional Forest Officer against his compulsory retirement and a senior clerk Muhammad Riaz demanded Rs5000 as bribe for comments on his file. Taking action on the complaint, an anti-corruption team conducted a raid and arrested senior clerk red-handed from Sammundri Road while receiving bribe.

The raiding team also recovered marked currency notes from his possession and locked the accused behind bars for further investigation.

Groom among six held for aerial firing

Millat Town police have arrested six people including a groom on the charge of aerial firing in a wedding ceremony.

Police said that some guests resorted to aerial firing and fireworks in jubilation in the marriage function of Kashif Ali in Millat Town. On information, the police rushed to the spot and arrested groom Kashif Ali, Ehsan, Samar Abbas, Mujahid Ali, Babar and Qaisar. A case has been registered against the accused.

Four illegal housing colonies sealed

Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) on Wednesday sealed four unapproved housing colonies and challaned 21 shopkeepers for setting up encroachments in front of their shops.

According to official sources, an enforcement team sealed offices of Al-Haq Town, Madina Villas, Defence Fort and Moon Housing Colony. Separately, an anti encroachment team demolished constructions on state land C-544 Ahmed Nagar and foiled the bid to occupy the plot. The team also challaned 21 shopkeepers in Bismillah Chowk, Madina Town and forwarded the cases to the court of Judicial Magistrate. The FDA also removed an iron gate installed illegally in F-block, Millat Town.

11 wheat procurement centers set up in Faisalabad

The food department has set up eleven procurement centers in the district where wheat will be purchased direct from growers at the rate of Rs1800 per 40 kilograms.  A spokesman for the food department said on Wednesday that a target of 110,000 metric tonnes wheat procurement had been set for Faisalabad district. 

He said that necessary arrangements had been finalised to kick off the wheat procurement campaign during last week of April. In this connection, “First come, First served” policy would be pursued during the issuance of Bardana (gunny bags) and purchase of wheat from growers, he added.
