ECP body to probe alleged abduction of POs in Daska

ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has constituted a probing team to conduct fact finding investigation into the matter of alleged abduction of presiding officers (POs) during the NA-75 Daska by-elections.

The commission has appointed provincial joint Election Commissioner Punjab Saeed Gul as the inquiry officer and has directed the team to submit report on May 16.

The team is also mandated to probe into violations made by police and presiding officers in discharging their duties. The committee is also permitted to take assistance of experts and some relevant federal and provincial departments. The committee is also given task to find out through scientific ways about the whereabouts of the abducted presiding officers during the election nights. The committee is asked to record statements of all presiding officers who were abducted.

Commission issues notification to stop motorcycle rallies organised by PML-N

Meanwhile, the commission has also issued notification to stop the motorcycles rallies organised by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Daska just ahead of re-elections in the constituency.

The Commission has directed the District Police Officer (DPO) to stop the rally as it was the violation of the election code of conduct. The ECP has also released code of conduct for the upcoming by-elections on provincial and National Assembly seats. 

The Commission in its notification has directed the candidates and other relevant people to enter the constituency ahead of the elections.

The Commission in its notification has also directed the elections monitoring teams to take help of the police in order to stop the violations of election code of conduct.     

The Commission also has directed the district administrations to fully implement the rules and code of conducts released by the Commissions for polling process.
