There are great debates going on among legal circles weather the Military courts are legal or not? What would be their mandate? Who will keep a check on them? Will they enjoy constitutional cover or not? All the committees and sub-committees are having meetings and drafts are discussed and amended for the last fifteen days. The question is why this great hue and cry when someone is fair and not an ally of the terrorists, why should they be so worried about Military Courts?
Keeping in view the first two terms of Nawaz Sharif in the 1990s, he is known for his inclination for special laws and courts, including military courts. However, the government has to amend several articles of the Constitution for introducing courts of military officers.
Whenever, there is a disaster we request the Army to help so what new thing has happened? Let’s admit that our civil structure has failed to deliver. As in few days we have seen huge fire eruption in Karachi and Lahore, but no concrete action is taken to counter such incidents. Let’s hope that Zardari and his cronies will not create hurdles in chanting slogans of the ‘Constitution’ which was shattered during his reign, because we need to understand one fact that Constitutions are made for humans and humanity cannot be slaughtered for the sake of constitution. If the government takes a bold decision this time, it will be a great service to humanity and Pakistanis otherwise we should wait for another Peshawar incident. Zarb-e-Azab is not only the fight on the war front but we need it in our cities and towns as well.
