NAB arrests two PWD officials

ISLAMABAD - National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi has arrested XEN Attique-Ur-Rehman and an accountant Javed of Public Works Department (PWD), who are allegedly involved in Rs 7 billion scam in the constituency of former Premier Raja Pervez Ashraf (NA-51), sources told The Nation on Friday.
Earlier, NAB arrested two persons named Rafaqat Iqbal, SDO of the Public Works Department (PWD), and a government contractor Liaquat Gondal allegedly involved in corruption, misappropriation in funds, and misuse of authority during the funds released for development projects in NA-51, the sources added. The sources further added that the abovementioned detainees by the NAB were allegedly involved in minting Rs 950 million in the head of kickbacks in the initiation of development projects kicked off in NA-51. According to details, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has ordered action against those involved in the developmental projects initiated by former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the sources said.
Developmental projects worth Rs 52 billion were initiated by the former prime minister during the final days of his tenure. The SC has ordered to continue those projects in accordance with PEPRA rules while to halt the others violating its rules.
