Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam were exempted from appearing before the accountability court today.
Corruption proceedings are being heard against the Sharif family in Accountability Court.
Nawaz Sharif and Maryam asked Judge Mohammad Bashir, when proceedings of the Avenfield case began, to be exempted from appearance owing to former PM’s ill health. The Judge accepted their request. While the court directed Nawaz's son-in-law MNA Capt Safdar (retd) to remain present in court.
The hearing was adjourned for a short time as NAB's primary witness in the case, Wajid Zia, head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), was not present in court.
The judge was informed by the prosecution team that Wajid Zia will appear shortly after he gets the original JIT report from the SC.
Today Amjad Pervez, Maryam and Safdar's counsel, will cross-examine Zia today. Nawaz Sharif's lawyer Khawaja Haris will cross-examine the witness on March 13.
