The case of Ms. Siddiqui

Dr. Afia Siddiqui, a Pakistani Muslim woman was kidnapped by the US intelligence agencies in 2005. She was shifted to America from an alleged US torture cell in Kabul in 2008. For the last one and half years, she has been imprisoned in America. According to press reports, she has complained before a US court that she has been subjected to strip search by the US authorities in disregard of her status as a cloistered Muslim woman. If such a thing had happened in China, Iran, Russia or Pakistan, the American authorities would have issued statements condemning violation of this womans rights. But when such violations happen in America, it is not considered violation at all. In my view, no nation on earth has been as uncivilized as the Americans. I wonder how can the Americans claim that Taliban violated women rights during their rule in Afghanistan? -BASHIR HUSSAIN AZAD, Chitral, November 7.
