Zeheer wants funds for scarp tubewells

LAHORE - Public Accounts Committee (PAC-1) Chairman Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din while asking the provincial government for ordering the finance department to release funds for the 'scarp tubewells programme warned that it would become difficult to cultivate the wheat crop if the scarps would not be made operational on urgent basis. He expressed these views while talking to the media at his chamber in Punjab Assembly after chairing the PAC-1 meeting on Wednesday. Zaheer said that the underground water level has risen to dangerous level after the recent rains especially in districts of Sargodha, Faisalabad and Gujranwala, while the same districts were facing imminent risk of salinity, adding that farmers could be averted from major losses if the provincial government take steps to initiate scarp tubewells programme on war footing.
