‘Poor’ mum ends life in Lahore

LAHORE - A mother of four ended her life by consuming acid at her house in the Hanjarwal area, police said on Saturday.
The family told the police that the resident of Niaz Baig identified as Shazia Bibi committed suicide because of poverty.
The woman locked herself in the bedroom and consumed acid after exchanging harsh words with her husband Shafaqat Hussain, said to be a daily wager.
Police investigators said that the husband of the deceased was unable to feed the family properly because of very low income.
The police handed over the body to the deceased’s family without autopsy after fulfilling legal formalities.
Two found murdered
Two men were found dead separately from different parts of the provincial metropolis on Saturday, police said. A 50-year-old factory worker, who went on missing under mysterious the other day, was recovered tortured to death from the City Raiwind area on early Saturday.
Police investigators said that the man, identified as Muhammad Bashir, was found tortured to death outside a private school.
Some passersby spotted the body and alerted the police. The decomposed body was removed to the morgue for autopsy.
The family told the police that Bashir, a resident of Mission Colony located at the Raiwind Road, had left for work at a nearby factory on Sunday last but he never returned.
The family says they believe unidentified men abducted the father of four, tortured him to death somewhere and escaped after throwing his body outside the school. The police have registered a murder case and are investigating.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man, yet to be identified, was found murdered from the Hanjarwal police limits on Saturday morning, police said.
Some passersby spotted the body, with severe torture marks, lying in the field near Niaz Baig Village. Investigators say they believe unidentified men tortured the man to death and escaped.
The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating.
Killed: A 60-year-old man was crushed to death by a rashly-driven car at the Mall Road late Friday night. Civil Lines police said that the man, unidentified so far, was crossing the road when a recklessly-driven vehicle hit him from the rear side.
The old man was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. Police said that the driver along with the vehicle fled away from the crime scene. Further investigation is underway.
