Supreme Court (SC) today directed Sindh High Court (SHC) and Islamabad High Court (IHC) to immediately decide on Axact’s pending cases.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib heard the suo motu notice of the Axact fake degree scandal.
According to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Basheer Memon, websites of at least 330 universities are being operated by Axact but they dont have any campuses.
He further said that Axact is not affiliated with any of the said universities but a person can still receive any degree from the website on the basis of experience in an hour for Rs500,000.
The CJP asked “I possess the experience in law. Can I receive a PhD degree?” to which Memon replied, “Yes, you can receive the degree of law and English on the basis of experience.”
The Chief Justice said universities are established under a law, but Axact degree process was going on since 2006-2015.
CJP questioned, “If the provided information is correct then a fraud was committed with the people. FIA initiated the investigation when the news came on media. What can the FIA do to prove the crime?”
To which Basheer Memon responded “the suspects of the Axact case in IHC have been acquitted.” CJP asked if FIA had presented evidence in the IHC.
Memon responded by saying that the appeal is still pending following which the registrar IHC told that the February 22 has been set for hearing of the petition.
Chief Justice also directed the SHC to constitute a bench to hear the case and decision should be given within a month.
