Euro 2016: 7 young players to watch

Here are some of the most promising talents who have been selected in their respective national teams for the Euros

Many footballers come and go, some perform, some disappoint but there will always be a bunch of exciting young talent to watch out for at every tournament. This year is no different. The European Championships are just around the corner and will serve as a great opportunity for the following exciting prospects to make a name for themselves at the international stage.

Let's take a look at some of the most promising talents who have been selected in their respective national teams for the Euros, having shone for their club sides during the past season.

GRANIT XHAKA – SWITZERLAND

The 23 year old Swiss International has had a couple of very decent seasons with Borussia M. Gladbach which earned him a move to Arsenal just recently. Before impressing at Arsenal, Xhaka will be looking to make a significant mark with his national side from the centre of the field. Having drawn similarities to Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan, the Swiss midfielder specializes in tackles, interceptions and key passes, making him suitable for both the defensive and offensive aspects of the game. Switzerland will be relying heavily on the midfield duo of Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka.

DELE ALLI – ENGLAND

Perhaps one of the most exciting talents on display at France this year will be England’s very own Dele Alli. The 20-year-old has not only broken into the Tottenham side this season, but has also been one of their main players during the season. The midfielder scored 11 goals and supplied nine assists during the campaign, firmly establishing his place in the attacking midfield role for the club from north London. Alli already announced his arrival at the international stage in spectacular fashion when he scored a stunner against France at Wembley in November and has been a key player for Roy Hodgson’s side ever since. Having already bagged the ‘Premier League’s Young Player Of The Year’ Award this season with Tottenham, Dele Alli is definitely the one to look out for.

LEROY SANE- GERMANY

The highly rated winger who plays for Schalke 04 is also someone itching to perform in France, having already shown promising signs with his club. At just 20 years of age, the German is already being targeted by Spanish champions, Barcelona and English club, Liverpool. Whilst he promises to deliver in abundance, getting into the starting XI will be a challenge for him. The reigning world champions have a plethora of midfielders to choose from and players such as Andre Schurrle, Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler and Thomas Muller would all be ahead of the young German in the pecking order. But, whatever little chances Sane gets, he will be looking to perform and prove his worth.

RENATO SANCHES – PORTUGAL

At the tender age of just 18, Sanches has garnered the attention of scouts, coaches, critics, supporters and viewers all across Europe. Bayern have already snapped up the skillful midfielder from Benfica in a deal worth £27.5m, according to BBC, with the fee expected to increase. Portugal have lacked both chemistry and stability over the past few years and apart from notable contributions from superstars, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Joao Moutinho, not much can be said about the others. But a genuinely good passer of the ball having a very high work rate, a rock solid Renato Sanches might just prove to be the game changer for the Portuguese in France.

ARITZ ADURIZ - SPAIN

Aritz Aduriz is one of the few players that has improved significantly with age. The Spanish striker, although 35 years old, has impressed one and all with his clinical performances for Atletic Bilbao in the recently concluded Europa League where he bagged the highest goal scorer award after having bulged the net 10 times. Aduriz was picked by Vincent Del Bosque ahead of Diego Costa for the European Championships. His link up play with David Silva and co. will be crucial for Spain.

HAKAN CALHANOGLU – TURKEY

The 22 year old has already proven himself as the one for the future with both club and country. Hakan, who is Bayer Leverkusen’s first choice attacking midfielder, has already scored 6 goals for Turkey since making his debut back in 2013. The midfield maestro is one of the few freekick specialists on display in France this year and will be key in Turkey’s hunt for glory.

ANTHONY MARTIAL – FRANCE

Rated as one of the finest talents in the world, Anthony Martial already turned quite a few heads when he signed for Manchester United from AS Monaco for a whopping fee in excess of 50 Million Pounds. Paying that much money for a 20 year old seemed to be nothing short of stupid at the time but Martial let his feet do the talking as he dazzled his way into LVG’s starting XI and managed to score 17 goals in just 45 games for the red devils. France is undoubtedly the favorites to win it all this time with fresh talent on display. Anthony Martial’s linkup with a star studded midfield will surely bear fruit for the men in blue.
