ECP to hear PTI petition against Yousuf Raza Gillani today

Election Commission will hear Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petition against former prime minister and newly-elected Senator Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani today (Tuesday).

The petition was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to block the Yousuf Raza Gillani’s victory notification in the Senate election after former premier’s son Ali Haider Gillani’s video went viral on the eve of elections.

An early hearing was requested in the petition. Earlier, the hearing was scheduled for March 11, but after protest by PTI MNAs Farrukh Habib and Kanwal Shauzab, the ECP has decided that the petition will be heard today (Tuesday).

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs Farrukh Habib, Kanwal Shauzad and Malika Bukhari had protested, saying that if petition could be fixed for hearing on the Daska election issue in one day then why the petition on Gillani’s video scandal cannot be fixed immediately.

The petition filed by PTI members had said that the issuance of notification of Yousuf Raza Gilani’s victory should be stopped till the proceedings on the video scandal are completed.

It may be recalled that on March 2, a day before the Senate elections, the alleged video of Ali Haider Gilani went viral in which he allegedly tells a PTI MNA how to waste ballot papers.
