Attacks in Haripur leave seven dead

HARIPUR/PESHAWAR - At least six people were killed and three others sustained injuries when unidentified armed assailants attacked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) local leader Javed Khan’s convoy near Havelian in Haripur district on Friday.
According to details, the PTI’s candidate for tehsil council from UC Kholian Bala, Khan Javed Khan, was coming back after attending an election meeting in village Kailag when attackers opened fire at his car near his village Toru Dhok.
The PTI local leader Javed Khan survived the attack and sustained minor injuries with two of his companions. However five of his guards and a driver following him in another vehicle were killed on the spot. Names of the diseased or injured could not be ascertained.
It has been learnt that family of Javed Khan has old family feud in the village. Javed Khan was later rushed to hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.
The assailants managed to escape from the scene after committing the crime. The incident took place in the limits of Sarae Saleh Police Station. Rescue teams reached the site and shifted the injured and the dead bodies to a nearby hospital.
Earlier, some unidentified armed men gunned down PML-N leader and a candidate for district council Qazi Sajjad here Friday.
Police said unidentified motorcyclists sprayed bullets at Qazi Sajjad when he was returning after attending a corner meeting in Saraey Saleh area of District Haripur. He was killed on the spot. The assailants managed a good escape after killing the PML-N leader.
Funeral prayer of Qazi Sajjad was offered in Sarey Saleh after Jumma Prayers. A large number of people including party’s district leaders, family members and relatives attended the funeral prayer. Later, he was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard.
PML-N provincial president Pir Sabir Shah condemned the incident demanding early arrest of the culprits.  The police after registering a case against the unknown murderers have started the investigation
