Shahbaz slams Metro Bus Project critics as ‘mafia’


LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday said that cost of the Metro Bus Project is below Rs27billion and its track would also be useful for a railroad.
A mafia is criticising this project which would certainly silence the detractors once which amazing project becomes operational, he said this while talking to a joint delegation of the Lahore Press and the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery which called on him Model Town.
The CM said that the metro bus project is a great public welfare development project, upon which less than Rs.27 billion had been spent.  He said that a visit to the great metro bus project would soon be arranged for journalists’ community, which has been made structurally so strong that even a train can also ply on the track. He said that metro bus project is for the common man, who is happy over the project but a specific mafia is feeling perturbed about this project; however the mouths of so-called critics would be shut, once the metro bus started operating. The Chief Minister said the fare of metro bus project would be affordable for the common man, while Punjab government would provide subsidy to ensure modern and comfortable travelling to the people. He said that the metro bus project would prove to be a revolution travelling.
The CM while talking to the journalists said that the PML-N valued the services of the media and always solved the problems of journalists’ community on priority basis. He asserted that Punjab government has taken concrete steps to retrieve land grabbed in the journalists’ colony as a large portion of land has been retrieved. On the demand of the delegation of journalists, the CM constituted a committee, headed by Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, to resolve all issues relating to the journalists colony. Apart from the concerned authorities, office-bearers of Lahore Press Club and Punjab Assembly Press Gallery would be members of the committee.
The CM said that the role of media has become of utmost significance in the present era, as responsible media plays a very vital part in progress and development of the society, besides providing guidance to the government and the people. The delegation of the journalists paid glowing tribute to the CM for formulating a committee for solving the problems of the journalists’ colony and initiating the great metro bus project.
Provincial Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Secretary Information Punjab, Director General Public Relations, Vice President Lahore Press Club Shahbaz Mian, President Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Shahzad Malik, and other members were present on the occasion. The delegation put across the problems about acquisition of land for F-Block of the Journalist Colony and the problems residents of the Colony at Harbanspura are facing currently.
