SC halts release of 68 terrorists acquitted by PHC

The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday halted the release of 68 terrorists, convicted by military courts and previously acquitted by the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

A two-member bench of the SC headed by Justice Azmat Saeed also ordered the jail superintendent to halt the release of the accused. During the hearing, Additional Attorney General Sajid Ilyas Bhatti told the bench that the PHC had not reviewed the facts of the case correctly.

He added that the accused were involved in crimes such as terrorism and asked that the military court sentences be restored. The bench suspended the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) orders and issued notices to all the parties involved in the case. The hearing was then adjourned for an indefinite time.
