Efforts on to replace PPP City leader

KARACHI - The differences in the PPP Karachi chapter surfaced after some influential party leaders in Sindh began machinations to replace the PPP Karachi President Syed Faisal Raza Abidi, who took the charge of his position after the February 18 elections, The Nation learnt on Wednesday. Well-placed sources in the party said that some top PPP leaders party, including some influential provincial ministers, involved in the campaign against Faisal Raza Abidi, are considered as the closed aides of party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. They are not happy with Faisal Abidi and his policies and want to replace him, sources added. However, in a bid to save his position, Abidi has reached Islamabad on Wednesday to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and other top PPP leaders to apprise them of the ongoing situation. The sources informed that name of former PSF leader, Naveed Zuberi, is being discussed as successor to Faisal Abidi. A close aide of PPP Karachi President told, on condition of anonymity, that Faisal Abidi has done remarkable in reviving the party activities in the metropolis, which has made him popular in the PPP. "Some elements are not happy with the popularity of Faisal Abidi hence they are hatching conspiracies against him", he added. He said that all top party leaders were happy with the performance of PPP Karachi president, who also helped hundreds of sacked PIA employees to be reinstated and dozens of party offices has been opened in different areas of the city. However, despite repeated contacts, Faisal Abidi and PPP Karachi secretary information Saeed Ghani were not available for comments.
