USAID-funded IWRCP project launched

ARGODHA - The Governance Institutes Network International (GINI) with the support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under its Citizens' Voice Project launched the initiative of Improving Water Rights in Central Punjab (IWRCP).The Citizens' Voice Project is one of several projects funded by USAID to support Pakistani-led initiatives throughout the country. In a press conference Gini representative explained the mechanism of project and sought the support of government functionaries, non-governmental entities and other relevant institutions for the national cause. He asked the farmers and organizations to participate in group discussions and roundtables to formulate the Charter of Demand for policy-makers.The project, Improving Water Rights in Central Punjab, to be implemented by the Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability (TDEA), aims at strengthening irrigation water rights in Sargodha, Faisalabad and Gujranwala districts.The inefficiency of the irrigation system is posing a threat to agriculture-based economy.
