Long term vision

Mr. Inayatullah’s column on “Brown’s challenge to Pakistan” published in your Newspaper on April 5, should be taken by government as a wakeup call. It is disgraceful to know that 60 million Pakistanis are illiterate. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who wants to turn Lahore into Paris and Pakistan into a progressive country forgets that nations become progressive by education not busses or train systems. He should use the amount given to him as well as make maximum use of the United Nations commitment to provide funds for the achievement of EFA goals by the end of 2015. Every Pakistani would like the PM to take steps in the right direction and to make educated choices rather than choices which will gain him temporary accolades and votes but give noting to the nation. If he is able to educate more children history will remember him.
MAHNOOR KHAN,
Lahore, April 7.
