Govt scraps Mansehra airport project, PAC told

ISLAMABAD - The Secretary Aviation Division Shoukat Ali informed a subcommittee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday that the government has formally shelved the Mansehra Airport project. The meeting of the subcommittee was held here under the chair of MNA Raja Riaz while it was attended by Hina Rabbani Khar and Noor Alam Khattak.  During the meeting, Director Audit Zahid Zaman informed the subcommittee that the land acquisition process for Mansehra Airport was initiated without having approved PC-I and a feasibility study.  It was pointed out by the audit that an amount of Rs.450.3 billion was deposited into the accounts of Deputy Collector Mansehra in violation of rules, who neither made mutation of the said land in the name of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) nor repaid the amount so far.  The Secretary Aviation replied that the project was initiated in August 2016 and payment was made on the directions of the federal government.
