Don’t buy gas from Iran: US

LAHORE- Deputy US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard Hoagland on Friday advised Pakistan to explore alternative sources of energy instead of relying on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.
‘It is better that Pakistan starts looking towards energy sources like wind, sun, biogas, and cow-dung instead of Iranian gas’, he remarked while talking to the media, adding that Iran Pipeline project would take years to get completed.  He insisted that having gas from Iran would not be a wise option for Pakistan as Iran may face international sanctions in the near future due to its political situation.
Hoagland said US had the required expertise and was ready to lend a hand in different projects [if Islamabad abandoned its gas deal with Iran]. He said US was mindful of the energy crisis in Pakistan and willing to extend cooperation to help it out of the present situation.
