FG employees’ degree verification still in limbo

ISLAMABAD - The degree verification of federal government employees (BS-17 & above) is still in limbo as ostensibly no further procedure is adopted to complete the process despite passing a couple of months.
The process of verification of degrees/certificates of federal government employees (BS-17 & above) was initially given 60 days for the exercise which was, with the approval of Prime Minister, extended for another 90 days all concerned and ministries were informed accordingly, but still no further steps were taken to complete it.
Initially, after receiving circular in the ministries and its attached departments some of federal employees submitted degrees submitted their degrees/certificates to the concerned departments but after smelling delay in the process they took back their original certificates, sources in cabinet division told TheNation.
Not more than 25 per cent process is still completed, sources said, as concerned departments are ostensibly paying not much heed on this issue due to certain reasons. Because of it concerned employees are also are not bothering to submit original certificates for verification, they added. Sources said that despite passing revised deadline for degree verification the process is yet to get momentum, as earlier the target time for the exercise was 60 days (staring from the date of issuing instructions for carrying out the exercise 8Marach, 2011.
It is relevant to mention here the revised date for degree verification of Islamabad’s gazetted employees was (8th August). Following the Prime Minister’s official announcement the verification of degrees of approximately 18,869 federal government officers (BS-17 and above) and more than 64000 officers of autonomous bodies, semi autonomous bodies, corporation etc is being carried out, and it has been divided into two phase.
As, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in an official announcement has also directed the Establishment Division (ED) that educational certificates of the employees working in all federal government institution may verify authenticity by the respective of institution.
It would also not be out of place to mention here that during the verification process none was declared as fake degree holder as yet.
The question on this issue was also was posed in the National Assembly (NA) and in response Minister Incharge of the Establishment division had claimed that if any fake degree case was reported or come to the notice of the concerned ministry necessary action would be taken as rules.
A number of attempts were made to seek comments of Secretary Cabinet Division Nargis Sehti on the issue but she was not available.
