Islamabad, Lahore register wins in National Women Cricket


ISLAMABAD - Islamabad and Lahore Regions started the 7th National Women Cricket Championship-2012 Pool A campaign with thumping victories by beating their respective opponents on Friday.
In the first match of the day, Islamabad Region skipper after winning the toss put Abbottabad Region into bat. Abbottabad were bundled out for paltry 60 runs in 25.4 overs. Fakhira Nayab could only manage to score 15 runs. For Islamabad, Samina Bibi (2-1), Fazila Ikhlaq (2-6), Hina Shafiq )2-12) and Diana Baig (2-17) shone with the ball.
Islamabad achieved the 61 runs target without losing any wicket in 11.4 overs as openers Huma Shafiq (36) and Nazish Akram (17) guide Islamabad home without being separated. Huma Shafiq was named player of the match.
In the second match between Quetta Region and Lahore Region, Quetta, while batting first after winning, were bowled out for 67 runs in 19.5 overs. Robina Kausar remained unbeaten for 14 runs. Namra Imran was in devastating form with the leather as she picked carrier best figures of 7 for 26. Elizabeth Barkat also chipped in with 3 for 22. Chasing 68 runs for victory, Lahore reached home in 10.2 overs by losing only one wicket. Farah Naeem (23*) and Malika Mansoor (22*) helped Lahore achieve the target. Hibe took the only Lahore wicket by conceding 34 runs.
Namra was named player of the match.
