Islamabad  - The Defence Ministry rejected the Punjab government’s request for according 21-gun salute to visiting Mayor of Istanbul. According to sources, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif had written a letter, making a request for 21-gun salute and guard of honour to the visiting dignitary which was turned down.  According to the defence secretary, such welcome could be accorded to the head of a state or prime minister.
