Pak troops leave for Ivory Coast

LAHORE (PR) – A batch of 250 Pakistani troops left to perform peace-keeping duties under the aegis of United Nation Mission in Ivory Coast. Brigadier Muhammad Zahid bade farewell to them at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, prior to their departure on a UN chartered aircraft here on Friday morning.
The departing troops will replace the already deployed Pakistan Army Contingent in the war ravaged country as part of relieve and rotation schedule.
Bidding the troops adieu, Brigadier Muhammad Zahid said that Pakistan Army had a glorious track record of rendering dedicated services for the restoration of peace all over the globe.
He urged the troops that they were embarking on a foreign assignment as ambassadors of Pakistan and their every action should be truly reflective of the exemplary traditions of Pakistan Army.
The Pakistani peace-keepers have been serving in the war ravaged African country since the last four years. The Pakistani contingent as part of the UN peace-keeping force has earned laurels for successfully disarming the combatants through peaceful dialogue. They have also helped in relief and repatriation of a large number of refugees by supporting the execution of rehabilitation programme.
