Quality education can’t be compromised, says Kausar


PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar had termed the Vision-2013 plan for further development of Edwards College, Peshawar, a highly courageous step and said this is a very prestigious institution that has produced men of caliber.
He said it indeed deserved to be further developed. Presiding over a meeting of Board of Governors of the college on its premises on Friday, the governor said initiatives were under way to make the role of this college more meaningful in the institutional and educational development in the country. He stressed that “we must also be mindful of the fact that we could not afford any compromise as far as the quality of education is concerned.” He, however, assured of every possible support in ensuring efficiently materialising the plan.
The meeting attended by the provincial minister for Higher Education, Qazi Muhammad Asad Khan, Secretary Higher Education, Mrs Farah Hamed Khan, Director, Institute of Management Science Dr. Nasir Ali Khan and a representative of the provincial Finance Department besides Bishop Hamphery Petor who is also vice chairman of the board and the representatives of the faculties of the college thread barely discussed and conceded to a proposal to initiate process for gradual development of the college to the status of a degree awarding institution. For making this possible, the board allowed the management of the college to ago ahead for academic, faculty and curricular-development of the college in line with the laid down criteria of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. This, the meeting decided, should also include the gradual shift over to the 4 years graduate degree programme.
The Board also reviewed the Financial Report submitted by the Special Committee, headed by Dr. Nasir Ali Khan and noted with appreciation the efficient and transparent management of accounts of the college over the past two years. The Board of Governor’s of the college also decided to meet twicely instead of the present practice of annual meeting and also welcomed the newly appointed Principal of the College, who has recently joined the institution. The services of a veteran educationist, Prof. Dr. Saeed Naseem Kazmi who has just retired on superannuation of his services as vice principal of the college were also highly eulogised.
Principal of the college briefed the participants about the working of the institution as well as its future development plans.
