In this world of feminism and with the advancements in technology, it is very easy to come up with a scandalous controversy every now and then and the past weeks have been filled with such controversial issues. Be it the two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid, or the sensational babydoll Hania Aamir.

Hania Aamir, the girl we know from Janaan and Na Maloom Afraad, posted a snapchat story of hers trying to capture a man sitting behind her, struggling to get out of the photo and being ridiculed for it. While for some and apparently for Hania, it was amusing but others have definitely found it a hit at the personal space of that very man.

Although, the starlet later on gave a clarification and said that the video was never meant to harass anyone and this unintentional act should not be considered an act of harassment, yet she has not managed to convince a lot of people.

“First of all, I’d like to apologise to everyone who got offended by the video I posted. That was not my intention at all,” she said in an interview.

“I would like to add that I took the snap down when I saw it again myself, as I found it extremely weird. It came out in the wrong manner.

“I saw the reactions the video garnered, and I can assure you that in no possible way, I was using my star power to harass the man. I would never do that. Honestly, I don’t even consider myself a star. But I do understand where people are coming from.”

And finally, we see her resorting to a blamegame in order to get the burden off her shoulders.

“My intention was never to harass a man, since I do know how it feels to be judged on how I wear my hair, what shoes I wear. Therefore, as soon as the video was uploaded and I saw the snap, I deleted it right there. I wasn’t trying to invade his personal space or anything like that.”

The peculiar case of Sharmeen Obaid has left many unanswered questions. Questions like what harassment actually is in the first place? If sending a friend request to a celebrity or someone you idealise is harassment, then the fingers of blame should be pointed on the very starlet for making a MAN uncomfortable by invading his personal space. Despite his attempts to avoid her and the “struggling” to get out of her video, Hania Aamir finds it amusing to go on with pointedly making fun of him.

“I’m known for making funny vines and videos and that was what the video was about. I wasn’t harassing anyone…. That definitely wasn’t what I meant to do. It was just an exchange of  expressions between two people and I found that hilarious at that time. However, I would still like to apologise to everyone about it.”

Accusing someone of harassment has become trendy and a seemingly easy target in the world of social media and globalisation but it might be that harassment varies from person to person. A doctor harassing the sister of an Oscar winner by sending her a friend request can be more fatal than the little darling capturing a man while he struggles to stay out, eventually making him uneasy. Little did Hania realise that the video was just not a mere exchange of expressions.

Violating someone’s personal space and harassing someone account for equal uprising and hence, equal actions should be taken against them consequently, be it a doctor , or the lovey-dovey actress we all adore. It is high time we start seeing everyone on an equal scale, avoiding any prejudices.
