Tarin affirms full support for revival of Pak film industry

ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin affirmed full support and facilitation for the revival of the film industry in Pakistan and considered the proposals put forth by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He held a meeting with the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry at the Finance Division. Secretary Information, Secretary Finance Division, Chairman FBR and other senior officers participated during the meeting. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting presented various proposals for revival of a film industry in Pakistan. He underlined the need to incentivize the local producers and film makers to support the already struggling film industry which is on the verge of closing down due to COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed that there is a need to incentivise on urgent basis due to seriousness of the problem on the part of this industry. He further stressed that the filmmaker shall be incentivised to fill the gap on production side. He further reiterated that those with original content and using local resources must be encouraged through various tax incentives so that cinema industry can flourish in the country, he added. In his remarks, the Finance Minister supported the idea of reviving the film industry to promote soft image of Pakistan. The revival of cinema will create ample employment opportunities for our talented youth and will also open up entertainment avenues for the people. He stressed upon the need to adopt latest technologies in film making to excel in a highly competitive environment.
