Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar has stated judiciary is not responsible for formulating new laws, it is the duty of the legislature to formulate and bring changes to the existing laws.
“Justice is the base of any society, no society could exist without ensuring justice to its members,” CJP added while talking about the judicial system of Pakistan at a ceremony in Quetta.
“We have to bring our house in order this his is the start of our judicial reforms. We must appreciate facts. Superior Courts are not courts of facts they are the courts of laws" he remarked.
"We are the top privileged civil servants, the salaries and facilities we get are more than other officers in other departments in similar grade, we must justify our income and facilities", he added.
Speaking of the cases which are delayed for years, Chief Justice Nisar remarked that he doesn’t understand how the trial of cases can go on for 30 to 40 years.
Furthermore, Justice Nisar added,"what is the fault of the person who is seeking justice for 15 or 20 years; I am unable to understand this"
Judges are supposed to pass verdicts that are according to law and constitution, he added.
