Peshawar win Men’s Judo Championship

ISLAMABAD – Peshawar and Abbottabad clinched the 12th Men’s Inter District Judo and 5th Women’s Inter Distract Judo Championships titles. The KP Judo Association-organised event was participated by 14 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 135 athletes, along with technical and team officials. In 12th Men’s Judo, Peshawar finished top with 4 gold, 1 bronze and 65 points while Charsadda secured second and Mardan ended up with third. Abbottabad emerged as women’s judo champions as they grabbed 3 gold, 1 bronze and 50 while Lakki Marwat finished second and Kohat secured third. KP Sports Directorate Director General Junaid Khan was chief guest at the closing ceremony. Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) secretary Mansoor Ahmad, PSB Peshawar Director Mumtaz Nadeem and Sarah Nisar were also present there.–Staff Reporter

Hamza, Asad grab Junior Squash titles

ISLAMABAD – Hamza Khan and Asad Ullah Khan grabbed the Red-Tone KL Junior Squash Championship 2017 U-13 and U-15 singles titles after defeating their respective opponents in the finals played at Malaysia. The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) sponsored a group of players from Pakistan National Squash Academy in U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 age categories, which include M Hamza Khan (U-13), Asad Ullah Khan (U-15), Uzair Shaukat (U-17), Mansoor Zaman (U-19), Zeeshan Zeb (U-19) and Asif Khan (coach). In U-13 category, Hamza outclassed Harith Danial Jefri of Malaysia 3-0, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 while in U-15 category, Asad Ullah routed Joachim Chuah 3-1, 12-10, 12-14, 12-10, 11-7. Two Pak qualifiers advance in ITF Futures

ISLAMABAD – Only two Pakistanis won the qualifying round matches of the Begum Kulsum ITF Futures Tennis Tournament 2017 here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex Sunday. Out of 15 qualifiers, only two Pakistanis and six foreigners advanced to next round. It was great display by young Ahmed Chaudhry, who thrashed Indian Ajay Pruthvi Nemakalin straight sets 6-3, 6-0, while Heera Ashiq (PAK) beat Abdaal Haider (PAK) 7-6(6), 7-6(5). In other matches, Oleg Besednikov (RUS) beat Harris Irfanul Haq (PAK) 6-1, 6-4; Hobbs Roy (SGP) beat Mudassar Murtaza 7-5, 6-2; Dmitry Maygkov (RUS) beat Usman Rafique (PAK) 6-1, 6-3; Felix Hutt beat Fahad Mahmood Khan (PAK) 6-2, 6-1; Anton Chekhov (RUS) Yasir Khan (PAK) 6-1, 6-2; Nikolay Vylegzhanin (RUS) beat M Shoaib (PAK) 6-2, 6-2.–Staff Reporter

Army on top in taekwondo event

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army Sunday continued their dominance in the 12th Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship 2017, as they won all the three gold medals on offer on the second day of the event, being played here at Pakistan Sports Complex, Liaqat Gymnasium. Male Khyrougi events were finalised, as in U-68kg feather weight, Army’s Ijaz Ahmed won gold, HEC’s Jibran Asad silver and GB’s Rehmat Jamal bronze medal. In U-74kg light weight, Army’s Salman won gold, Wapda’s M Bilal silver and GB’s Razi-ud-din bronze. In U-80kg welter weight, Syed Anan Shah of Army won gold, Rab Nawaz of Railways silver and Abdul Khaliq of Balochistan medal. A record number of 45 to 50 teams from provinces, departments, services, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, Islamabad and clubs are participating in it.–Staff Reporter

Inter-Provincial Games meeting today

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera will conduct the meeting of 19 secretary generals of the concerned National Sports Federations (NSFs) and discussed various technical issues here at Pakistan Sports Complex on Monday. The meeting will be held in connection with holding of Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games from December 25 to 29 at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. The technical conduct of these games will be the responsibility of respective National Sports Federations. Talking to The Nation, PSB Director Media M Azam Dar said: “Snooker events will be organized by the PSB in the snooker discipline i.e. Snooker – 6 Red event (25th & 26th December), Snooker – singles event (27th & 28th December), Snooker – team event (29th December), three (3) players, one team manager and one coach from each unit mentioned below will participate in the above snooker events. Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, KP, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK Sports Board.”–Staff Reporter
