Pakistan hockey team fails to secure a place in the quarter-final of the of the on-going Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar after the team was suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of Belgium.
In the all-important cross-over match, Pakistan was swept aside by Belgium as the Red Lions scored five times to beat Pakistan 5-0. Pakistan had to play a cross-over match after securing just one point in the group.
The lone point was against Malaysia, where they were held to a 1-1 draw. Pakistan lost their other two games, 1-0 to Germany and suffered a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Netherlands.
Before this match, the record between Pakistan and Belgium in the World Cup was at 2-0 in Pakistan’s favour as the greens won both the times, 2-0 in 1973 and 3-2 in 2002.
