Djokovic resumes tennis training in Australia after court win

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic resumed training after he won Monday a court battle against the Australian government which had canceled his visa ahead of the 2022 Australian Open.

"I'm pleased and grateful that the Judge overturned my visa cancellation. Despite all that has happened, I want to stay and try to compete @AustralianOpen I remain focused on that," he tweeted on Monday.

"I flew here to play at one of the most important events we have in front of the amazing fans," he added.

On Jan. 4, Djokovic, world no. 1 in men's tennis, announced that he was granted a medical exemption from being vaccinated for COVID-19.

However, the Australian Border Force quizzed him and canceled his visa after he landed at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport.

Then Djokovic was sent to an immigration detention hotel in Melbourne and he appealed to a federal court later.

Australia mandates all players to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to compete in this year's first major tennis tournament.

Djokovic, 34, is still refusing to reveal whether he is vaccinated against the coronavirus.
