Peshawar - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Moazzam Jah Ansari said on Saturday that police was keeping an eye on situation and was using cameras to identify those who chanted slogans in favour of the Taliban while carrying Afghan Taliban’s flags in Peshawar recently.
“A meeting is to take place next week under the KP Chief Minister to discuss the evolving Afghan situation and formulate response,” the IGP said while speaking at Meet the Press event at Peshawar Press Club.
It may be mentioned here that a number of people, mostly Afghan refugees chanted slogans in favour of Taliban on main University Road while carrying the flags of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan late Friday night.
The provincial police officer said that situation in Afghanistan was changing and the authorities would decide Pakistan’s policy in this respect keeping in view the country’s sovereignty. He said it was important to build consensus on international level.
He further said that police was performing well in the merged districts but that the cops still needed discipline and more training and equipment in the tribal districts.

“The cops (former Levies and Khassadars) in merged districts have raised their voice for their rights, and it is my responsibility to impart them good training and give them any gadgets required as well as the buildings needed there,” he added.
He said that changing situation in Afghanistan also had impacts on Pakistan, adding that fencing on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border was being carried out in an appropriate manner.
“A rigorous campaign is underway against drugs across the province and we have formed special Narcotics Eradication Teams (NETs) for the purpose,” he added.
