Lahore/Karachi- People protest against increased power outages amid rising mercury in various cities including Karachi.
Two-hour power cut after every hour amid rising temperature which hit 39 centigrade even in the early hours forced people to come out of their homes and block Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi,the angry crowd also burned tires.People dispersed after negotiation with the Police.
In Lahore’s certain areas less voltage was reported to be supplied while at other places two-hour power cut perturbed the citizens. At BhattaChowk, Haebanspura, Mian Mir Colony, Infantry Ground and Garhishahu people came out of their houses after remittent power cuts for long hours.
They protested that their normal course of life was interrupted owing to unscheduled power cuts. They complained their businesses were being adversely affected at the day times while taking a good night sleep has become impossible owing to intermittent power cuts.
When contacted, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) authorities said owing to a technical fault in the KotLakhpat grid station, the power supply was suspended. The supply will soon be restored, said the Lesco representative.
In twin cities, the life was disrupted due to unscheduled power cuts. Even in Islamabad, 12 hour power cuts defy all government claims. Supply of low power voltage to certain areas was also reported in the Capital. Mercury rose up 38 centigrade in Rahimyar Khan, Jhang, Sahiwal and Okara. Heat wave also hit Turbat and Sibi in Balochistan. The met office has predicted the heat wave would continue for the next 5 days.
In the beginning of the next week, rainfall has been predicted in Upper Punjab, Upper KPK and Islamabad.
