Maria clinches Safari women squash title


RAWALPINDI - Top seed Maria Toor Pakai clinched the first Safari National Women Squash Championship title by thrashing Roshna Mahboob 3-0 in the final here on Saturday at Safari Club, Bahria Town Rawalpindi.
Maria never allowed her opponent any chance of settling down in the match and won first game 11/4.I and second by 11/7. She also took third game 11-6 by to lift the title. Maria had come all the way from Canada to participate in the championship. Earlier in the first semi-final Maria defeated Sana in straight sets with the margin of 3-0.The second semi-final was won by Roshna Mahboob as she beat Riffat Khan of ZTBL 3-0. For the third position play offs match, Saima Shoukat beat Riffat Khan 3-1.
Maria was awarded Rs 50,000 cash, Roshna received Rs 30,000 and Saima was given Rs 20,000 cash award. Paul Mollay, Deputy High Commissioner, Australian embassy in Pakistan was the chief guest on the occasion; he later distributed prizes amongst the players.  Meanwhile Wing Commander Abdul Wahab Marvat, Tariq Farooq Rana, Qazi Nadeem Ahmed, Commodore (R) M Ilyas were also present on the occasion.
