Armed men attack school van in Swat; driver killed

Sawat    -    Unidentified armed men attacked a school van in Swat valley on Monday. The van driver, Hussain Ahmed son of Inayatur Rahman resident of Gali Bagh Swat, lost his life in the attack while two children received injuries. According to details, the armed men, who were riding on a motorcycle, attacked the van in Swat’s Waliabad village of tehsil Charbagh. The van belonging to a private school ‘Knowledge City Public School’ was targeted by the unknown attackers on Waliabad Road. Soon after the incident, police and security forces reached the spot and started search operation in the area while the two injured children were shifted to Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital. After the incident, a large number of students, notables of the area, teachers and civil society members took to the streets against the fresh wave of terrorism in the valley and condemned the attack. The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed their demands. They also called for steps to maintain peace in Swat and Malakand division. KP CM, SA CM grieved APP adds: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan on Monday expressed grief and sorrow over the attack on school van in Swat. In a condemnation message, the CM condemned the attack on the innocent school students. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul of the driver in eternal peace and early recovery of the injured students. Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif also condemned the attack on the school van. In a statement, Barrister Saif expressed grief and sorrow over the incident. He prayed for the departed soul of the driver and early recovery of the two injured students. ANP leader condemns attack Provincial president of Awami National Party, Aimal Wali Khan on Monday condemned attack on school vans at Gali Bagh Swat and Timergara Dir Lower districts and termed targeting of innocent children highly deplorable and unacceptable for his party as well as the nation. In a statement here, the ANP leader said that children were their future and it was responsibility of the KP government to provide protection and security to schoolchildren in the province.
