Punjab ACE team fails to arrest Sanaullah

ICT police’s ‘non-cooperation.

ISLAMABAD     -   A team of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab made an unsuccessful attempt to arrest Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah after his warrants were issued by a Rawalpindi court and reached Police Station Secretariat to meet the legal requirements in this regard. The team of ACE Punjab had to return empty handed from the federal capital. The investigators of anti-graft body accused the Islamabad police of being “non-cooperative” despite orders from a Rawalpindi court to arrest the interior minister in an inquiry related to purchase of plots in a housing society on cheap rates. However, a spokesman to IG Islamabad rejected this claim saying the investigators had refused to provide police the case record. He said that the police had received arrest warrants of Rana Sana Ullah as per law. In a statement, ACE Punjab Director, Syed Anwar Ali Shah claimed that the police forced the investigators to go out from the police station which was a clear violation and non-compliance of court orders. He said the anti-graft body will inform the court about the humiliation by the police. A spokesman of Islamabad police tweeted that ACE Punjab officers had refused to present the record in the case. “A formal arrest warrant was received in the police station. Regular arrivals and departures were also registered,” he said. The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment was told to adopt a legal way as per the law but it failed to adopt a clear stand, he added.
