UNCOP27 gives vice presidency to PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD    -   As an acknowledgment of the proactive leadership and glob­al efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the climate change action plan, the United Nations Climate Change Confer­ence (COP27) has announced to hand him over the vice-presi­dency of the conference.

Pakistan has got this global distinction out of the 195 mem­bers of the United Nations. The Presidency of the COP-27 is with Egypt which would also host this year summit.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has also invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to jointly chair COP-27 meet­ing to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh on 6th November this year. Other than PM Shehbaz Sharif, the conference would be co-chaired by Norwegian Prime Minister and Egyp­tian President. Prime Minis­ter Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Norway and the Egyptian President will joint­ly chair the roundtable confer­ence. The COP-27 meeting is beginning in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from the 6th of next month which will be attend­ed by world leaders, heads of governments and represen­tatives of think-tanks and in­ternational financial institu­tions. Shehbaz Sharif has been entrusted the Vice Presiden­cy for being an effective voice on climate change. The prime minister’s proposal for global cooperation in addressing the challenge of climate change had received endorsement by the SCO member countries. The SCO summit was held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on September 15-16. In the wake of recent floods, the Prime Minister forcefully raised the issue of climate change at the SCO Summit and the 77th ses­sion of the UN General Assem­bly in New York. PM Shehbaz Sharif would again highlight the challenge of the climate change and its impact on de­veloping countries.
