Anti-polio war escalates

LAHORE - Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has directed staff in Rawalpindi and Lahore to make extra efforts for polio eradication in the wake of positive environmental sample.
“The NIH lab in Islamabad confirmed presence of polio virus in the environmental sample taken from Lahore and Rawalpindi in August. It indicates there is need to immunise children against polio,” he said during a meeting yesterday.
Dr Munir, Coordinator Punjab Emergency Operation Center, also called a meeting of program units and development partners to discuss the positive environmental samples in two cities. Punjab has no polio case this year. So far 14 polio cases have been reported from across Pakistan.
