Sindh High Court extends bail of Jam Abdul Karim in Nazim Jokhio case

KARACHI - The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday extended bail of Jam Abdul Karim, a key suspect in Nazim Jokhio murder case.

The counsel of Jam Abdul Karim on Monday submitted a plea in the court for his exemption from the court hearing. The counsel pleaded to the bench for exemption of Karim’ from the court hearing. “How could the court exempt him from the hearing,” Justice Umar Sial questioned.

“Jam Karim has been in Islamabad to cast his vote for the prime minister’s election today (Monday),” the counsel replied. “He will appear in the court after casting his vote in the next hearing,” the lawyer further said. The court approved the exemption plea of the accused. “Why the challan has not been submitted in the Anti-Terrorism Court,” the bench questioned the lawyer. “The challan was finalised and submitted in the Prosecutor General’s office, but they had raised objections over it,” the investigation officer of the case replied.

“Where is the case file now,” the bench asked. “It is with me, I plead for one week to submit the charge-sheet,” the IO said. “I will submit the challan after addressing objections raised by the office of the Prosecutor General. The bench ordered the IO to submit the challan in the ATC executing judge within one week.

Nazim Jokhio’s body was recovered from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MPA Jam Awais’s farmhouse in December, last year. SHC seeks recommendation on legal status of cryptocurrency

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed finance ministry to submit recommendations on legal status of cryptocurrency in two months.

The directives came after the court expressed its dissatisfaction over a report submitted by finance ministry on cryptocurrency. “The court gave you three months’ time but no progress has been made so far,” the SHC judge said.

Giving arguments before the court, a representative of the finance ministry said that they held meeting of the stakeholders twice, however, they are yet to reach consensus on giving legal status to cryptocurrency.

“This is a complicated matter and needs time to resolved,” the representative said.

Bench orders IO to submit challan in ATC executing judge within one week

The court, however, rejected the argument and said that it was not a complicated matter and is being lingered on unnecessarily. The court directed the finance ministry to submit recommendations on giving legal cover to cryptocurrency in two months and adjourned the hearing until June 13.

In January this year, Shibli Faraz said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led federal government intends to regularise cryptocurrency in Pakistan. He was addressing the first Pakistan Blockchain Summit 2022, in Islamabad.

Shibli Faraz said the State Bank of Pakistan, Securities and Exchange Commission and Finance Division are already working on the plan.
