Rawalpindi-Four people died of COVID-19 in different hospitals in the city here on Wednesday, informed sources.
Similarly, the district administration has imposed smart lockdown in 28 hotspot areas of the city till August 19, 2021, they said.
According to sources, as many as four people died of coronavirus. They said some 293 people contracted Covid-19 virus in Rawalpindi district while 164 patients discharged from the hospitals after recovery from deadly virus during 24 hours.
The positivity rate was at 13.67 percent, however, on August 4, it was recorded at 18 percent in the district, sources said. They said Musarrat Begum, 68, resident of Gujar Khan, was taken to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) on August 10 and she died on Wednesday. Similarly, Abdul Qayyum, 76, resident of Kallar Syedan, was brought to Fauji Foundation Hospital on August 10 and he died.
Imtiaz Ahmed Qureshi, 70, resident of Israr housing Scheme, was brought to Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital on August 10 where died.
Shaukat Pervaiz, 58, resident of Daraabad, was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) on August 10 and he died on Wednesday, they said.
In Rawalpindi district, there are 2079 active patients. As many as 212 patients are in the hospitals including 20 patients arrived from other districts and 1867 patients are home isolated.
There are six patients on ventilator in Rawalpindi, 136 are on Oxygen and 70 are stable. Sources also disclosed that district government has placed smart lockdown in some 28 areas of city due to spike in coronavirus cases. The smart lockdown was imposed on orders of DC Amir Aqiq Khan, they said.
The area where smart lockdown was imposed included Mohawar Colony, Pindora, Iqbal Town, Chaklala Scheme-I and III, Khyaban-e-Sir Syed, Haji Chowk, Asghar Mall, Amarpura, Eidgah, Committee Chowk, Arya Mohallah, Satellite Town, Shamsabad, Muslim Town, Sadiqabad, Saidpur Road, Waris Khan, Gulshan Dadan, Adiala Road, Gulistan Colony, Haripura, Rasool Nagar, Glass Factory, Gulshan Dadan Khan, Pirwadhai, Gora Road and others.
On the other hand, district administration launched crackdown against the violators of SOPs of Covid-19 and imposed Rs165,000 fine on restaurants and shops.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) City Waqas Sikandri sealed 17 shops in Rawalpindi city. Likewise, AC Yasir Rizwan has also sealed seven shops in Kahuta by and four snooker clubs were sealed in Gujar Khan.
