KARACHI - Teachers Tuesday went on boycott of classes across Sindh to protest against the Sindh Universities Laws (Amendment) Act 2013.
On the call of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association-Pakistan (FAPUASA-P), a two-hour token strike was also observed in the other provinces.
Following the decision of the Fapuasa, the students of Karachi University (KU) and NED University of Engineering and Technology stayed at their homes.
According the leaders of Fapuasa, the protest was held against, what they said, the lethargic behavior the government towards the resolution of the conflict over the Sindh Universities Act 2013.
Separately, KU and NED teachers told the media that NED University of Engineering and Technology lacked funds.
“The Sindh government has not been taking interest over over the Sindh Universities Act 2013.
“In Sindh, public universities are facing deficit of Rs.6 billion but government is unconcerned.”
Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KU) President Prof Dr Jameel Kazmi, Usman Ali and Ghazanfar Hussain of NED University addressed the press conference.
Prof Kazmi said the teachers proposed amendments but the government didn’t pay heed. He said the struggle would continue and the protest would be held across the country if government refuse to budge.
