IHC disposes of case pertaining to chairman PTV appointment

ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday termed the appointment of Chairman Pakistan Television (PTV) Naeem Bukhari against the guidelines of Supreme Court (SC) and disposed of a case against it.

The court instructed the federal government to make new appointment keeping in view the SC direction. The old name could also be reconsidered in procedure of new appointment but it would be necessary to mention reasons for giving any age relaxation, it further said.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case against the appointment of Chairman PTV Naeem Bukhari. The lawyer of Naeem Bukhari apprised the court that the authority had clubbed the matter of managing director PTV with the order of IHC in this case. 

surprised to see Dar Advocate among violent lawyers: IHC CJ

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Thursday observed that he was surprised to see Hammad Saeed Dar Advocate among the group of violent lawyers who had attacked the IHC.

He said Hammad Dar was very aggressive among the lawyers’ mob. It was the IHC which had given relief to Dar when he was kidnapped on January 2, he added. Chief Justice Minallah said it did not matter if 200 out of 6,000 lawyers were involved in the violent incident, which had disgraced the whole fraternity.  He expressed these views while hearing the case regarding the disappearance of Hammad Dar Advocate.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Abdul Rafay Advocate, said it was an unfortunate incident. 

 It may be mentioned that Hammad Dar’s father Sufian Dar had approached the IHC when his son was disappeared on January 2. Dar was recovered on January 4, on the directives of IHC.

Model courts decide 279 cases

The model courts of Pakistan on Thursday decided a total of 279 cases in four provinces.

According to a report, model criminal trial courts decided 15 cases of murder and 88 related to narcotics.  The courts recorded the statements of a total of 522 witnesses.

The report said that the model courts in Punjab decided 3 murder cases and 20 narcotics, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 6 murder cases while 25 related to narcotics, four murder cases and 43 narcotics in Sindh while the model courts in Balochistan decided 2 murder cases.
