Mishi Khan booked for ‘swindling’ lady doctor

Rawalpindi - Police booked famous actress and TV anchor Mishi Khan and a manager of an Islamabad-based marketing company for swindling money from a lady doctor in Rawalpindi to run advertisement campaign of her clinic and beauty saloon but later refused to do so, reliable sources disclosed to The Nation on Saturday.
“The case (number 450) was registered on 4/7/2015 with Police Station New Town under section 406 of Pakistan Penal Code (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), which carries five-year imprisonment if the charges against the accused are proved in a court of law,” sources added.
However, they said, the celebrity obtained pre-arrest bail from a court of law while her co-accused namely Waseem Shehzad was at large.
According to sources, a lady doctor Afhsan Khan wife of Chaudhry Shahid Ghafoor, resident of House Number M-T-6-339, Street Number 3, Mohalla Amar Pura appeared before the City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi and tabled an application that she paid Rs4,50,000 via cheque number (8428758-59 HBL Muree Road) on 5/3/2015 to Mishi Khan in presence of manager of RH Marketing Waeem Shehzad in her clinic at Satellite Town to run advertisement campaign of her clinic Afhsan Medical Centre and Hooram Beauty Castle on different media outlets. She mentioned that both persons neither ran advertisement campaign nor they returned her the amount. She said that Mishi Khan and Waseem Shehzad hurled threats of dire consequences at her when she demanded her money back. Dr Afshan Khan requested CPO to take action against Mishi Khan and Waseem Shehzad, resident of House Number 353, Street Number F/11 Islamabad and provide her protection.
CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, sources said, took action and assigned DSP New Town Faisal Saleem the task to conduct probe into the matter.
“After holding detailed inquiry into the allegations and summoning both parties, DSP submitted inquiry report with CPO Office while recommending legal action against Mishi Khan and Waseem Shehzad,” sources maintained.
They said that CPO ordered SHO Police Station New Town to lodge First Information Report (FIR) against the accused and arrest them. Following the orders of top police boss, SHO Police Station New Town registered a case against the accused, they added.
Mishi Khan, however, when contacted by this scribe for her comments, categorically denied her involvement in the scam, saying she had not got money from Dr Afhsan rather Waseem Shehzad, a manager at RH
Marketing, took money from the applicant. She dubbed Waseem Shehzad a fraudster, saying he also gave a fake cheque to her in the past which was later disowned by a bank.
She said that there was no marketing company registered on her name and how it could be possible she would swindle money from people to run their advertisement campaigns on media outlets. “I have nothing to do with these allegations since the contract was signed between Dr Afshan and Waseem Shehzad,” Mishi Khan claimed.
On the other hand, Dr Afshan, while chatting with The Nation, said that it was Mishi Khan whom she paid Rs4,50,000 through a bank cheque in her clinic in Satellite Town to run advertisement campaign of her clinic and beauty saloon. “I don’t know who is Waseem Shehzad. I know only one person and that is Mishi Khan who developed good relations with me during her show airing on a private TV channel,” she claimed.
It was revealed in an investigation launched by The Nation, some six cases were registered against MH Marketing office-bearer Waseem Shehzad (3 each) with police stations Kohsar and Shalimar, Islamabad under section 489-F of Pakistan Penal Code (Dishonestly issuing a cheque).
Two police officers, ASI Raees of Police Station Kohsar and SI Malik Mumtaz posted at Police Station Shalimar told The Nation that Waseem Shehzad swindled money from many people and they had arrested the accused after registering cases, presented him before the courts of law and sent him jail on judicial remands in fraud cases.
SI Malik Mumtaz said that in one case the dispute between the applicant and Waseem was solved but later the accused disappeared and he (SI) would file an application with a court to obtain arrest warrants of Waseem and to declare him as court absconder in upcoming days.
Meanwhile, Mishi Khan filed a petition with court of Additional Session Judge (ASJ) Rana Zahid Iqbal for confirmation of pre-arrest bail. The court will take up the matter on July 16, 2015.
