IGP forms team to probe Abbas Town blast



KARACHI  - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh Monday constituted a special investigation team headed by DIGP South Zone Shahid Hayyat to probe into Abbas Town blast incident.
The investigation team has been constituted in compliance of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The team, after investigation will ensure submission of challan pertaining to the Abbas Town blast case before the Anti Terrorist Court.
The following police officers will act as the members: DIGP/SRP Sultan Ali Khowaja, SP Investigation-I, East Zone Naveed A Khowaja, SP/ Investigation-II, East Zone Shiraz Kalhoro, SP, AEC/CID Ch Muhammad Aslam, SP, CID/Investigation Mazhar Mashwani, SP/ AVCC Niaz Khoso, SI/ Incharge Interrogation Analysis CID M.Arif and SI/CID Malik Sabir. The team is also allowed to co-opt services of any police officer if required.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that required fund for the rehabilitation of victims of Abbas Town tragedy had been provided. This was stated by them while jointly presiding a meeting in connection with the rehabilitation of Abbas Town victims at the Governor House.
Provincial Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas and Commissioner Karachi Hashim Raza Zaidi also attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that compensation cheques of Rs1 million each have been given to more than 80 injured persons while verification of documents of 29 out of 56 deceased have been completed and compensation cheques of Rs1.5 million each would be issued to their legal heirs within two days. The compensation cheques of remaining deceased would be given after completion of their verification process.
It was also informed that the government has released Rs13 million for construction and repair of damaged flats. The construction work would be started as soon as the on-going demolition work of the affected flats completed.
